Yes, a Goldair portable air conditioner normally beeps when it's powered on, and its compressor starts and stops on its own as the room reaches your set temperature. If it's loud, move it onto a flat, hard floor. Burning smells, sparks, grinding or loud rattling are not normal: stop using it.
This covers Goldair portable air conditioners (such as the GPPAC300).
Normal sounds
- A beep when it's first powered on. It then goes into standby.
- The compressor starting and stopping. In Cool and Heat modes the compressor turns on and off as the room reaches your set temperature, and the fan speed adjusts automatically.
- In Dry mode, the compressor runs for 8 minutes, then stops for 6 minutes, and repeats.
- In Fan mode, only the fan runs. The compressor stays off.
Wait at least 3 minutes after turning it off before you turn it on again.
If it's louder than usual
Move it onto a flat, hard floor. An uneven surface makes it louder.
Stop using it if
- you smell burning or see smoke or sparks;
- it makes a grinding, scraping or loud rattling noise after you've moved it to a flat floor;
- the plug, cord or casing is hot, melted or damaged.
If any of these happen:
- Switch it off at the wall and unplug it, if it's safe to do so.
- Don't use it again.
- Don't open it or try to repair it.
- Chat with us and tell us your model number.
