Normal sounds and smells
- A slight smell or a little smoke the first time you use it. This comes from the heating elements warming up for the first time and shouldn't happen again.
- A click when the heater turns on or off. The thermostat switches the heater on and off to keep the room at your set temperature.
- A small flash of light when the thermostat switches, on some fan and convector heaters.
- A beep when you turn it on, on heaters with electronic or Wi-Fi controls.
Stop using it if
- the smell or smoke comes back after the first use, or it smells like burning plastic;
- you see sparks or smoke;
- you hear crackling, sizzling or popping from the plug, power point or cord;
- the casing, plug or cord is hot, melted or damaged.
If any of these happen:
- Switch the heater off at the wall and unplug it, if it's safe to do so.
- Don't use it again.
- Don't open it or try to repair it.
